A team of talented individuals and I worked together to produce a Network ID for Adultswim, highlighting people’s favourite, Rick and Morty, which is currently uploaded to their youtube page with 12K views and counting. The unseen impact of Rick and Morty’s travels are conveyed through a grotesque mural with a secret. A live-action timelapse shows a graffiti artist painting a mural of the two main characters. Once completed, a blacklight is switched on revealing the flourescent side effects of their interdimensional adventures including glowing aliens, wriggling tentacles, bubbling boils and more. We experimented on different emotions of “Rick and Morty” before deciding the composition of the mural. After approval of storyboards and styleframes, the team and I got to work on shooting the mural production on video in a friend’s basement. We ordered special UV sensitive paint and switched the bulbs from the existing lights in the basement to black lit bulbs, and set up our own light rigs to aid the production. The team started to illustrate and animate each element and track it to the footage. I finalized the compositing of graphic elements with Adobe After Effects and presented it successfully to the client.
